Lindsey and Robert’s Elopement at White Sands National Park

They chose an intimate Elopement at White Sands.

Many couples dream of becoming husband and wife surrounded by loved ones. However, for adventurous couple Lyndsey and Robert, their dream day was more spontaneous.

Lindsey hiked up the dunes wearing a simple white dress. Both her and Robert were accessorized in modest succulents. A park ranger inspected Lyndsey’s bouquet during our visit. Luckily, avid hiker Lyndsey was aware of regulations prohibiting live vegetation and came prepared! Be sure to know any regulations or permits required if you’re considering an elopement at this park. This is important if you are planning an event in a national park. Flowers are not allowed in the park. A wonderfully charismatic pastor officiated the wedding. His warm demeanor was perfect for the couple’s special moment. I was especially honored to be one of their two witnesses.

The ceremony was short, sweet, but most importantly, everything the ecstatic couple hoped for.

We hiked further into the white sand dunes to take advantage of the gorgeous sunset that graced their Elopement at White Sands.

Be prepared to hike a bit because as soon as you get away from the trail, the dunes become more and more beautiful.

5 Tips for Planning Your White Sands Elopement

      1. Get the proper permits: Contact the park at least 2 weeks ahead to secure your special use permit for the ceremony.
      2. Choose the right time: Late afternoon provides the best light and more comfortable temperatures, especially during summer months.
      3. Wear appropriate footwear: Bring sandals for the ceremony and closed shoes for hiking.
      4. Pack light but smart: Bring water, sunscreen, and lip balm. The desert environment is harsh, and there’s no shade.
      5. Respect park rules: Remember that no flowers or outside vegetation are allowed in the park to protect the ecosystem.
