After photographing weddings at Hotel Paso del Norte, I've come to appreciate how naturally the venue flows from one part of the day to the next.
From getting ready, where the larger suites provide beautiful natural light, tall windows, and timeless design details that create a wonderful start to your wedding gallery.
From there, you'll find beautiful options for a first look before exploring some of the hotel's most iconic portrait locations. Inside, the grand staircase, Dome Bar, historic lobby, and elegant architecture each create a different look. Outside, one location I find myself returning to at almost every wedding is the San Antonio entrance. The grand doorway, historic façade, and intricate architectural details instantly capture the character of Hotel Paso del Norte.
One of my favorite moments comes just before sunset from the tenth floor. Looking out over downtown El Paso, surrounded by the city's historic buildings, gives your photographs a completely different perspective and reminds you that you're celebrating in the heart of downtown.
As the celebration continues, the spacious second floor is perfect for cocktail hour, while the ballroom gives your guests plenty of room to celebrate. A large dance floor creates an energetic atmosphere where people can truly let loose, and those genuine moments often become some of my favorite photographs of the night.
To finish the day, I always recommend stepping outside for a few minutes after dark. With Hotel Paso del Norte beautifully illuminated and the city lights surrounding you, it's the perfect way to end your wedding gallery.

Getting Ready Spaces
Where you get ready can have a bigger impact on your photographs than most couples realize.
I've photographed couples getting ready in several different rooms throughout the hotel, and choosing the right one makes a noticeable difference.
The Presidential Suite, Governor Suite, and Sun City Studio Suite are my favorite options. They offer tall windows, beautiful natural light, and spacious layouts that make it easy to create elegant getting-ready photographs. I also love the thoughtful design details, especially the wallpaper featuring historic maps of El Paso, which adds a subtle sense of place to your images.
Some of the standard guest rooms can be more challenging. Depending on the layout, the bed may sit very close to the windows, leaving less room to work with natural light and making it harder to create the clean, timeless photographs most couples are hoping for.
If photography is an important part of your wedding day, I always recommend asking about one of the larger suites. The extra space and natural light make a noticeable difference, not only in your photographs, but also in how relaxed the morning feels.
First Look Opportunities
Hotel Paso del Norte offers several beautiful locations for a first look, but my favorite is one that many couples overlook.
While the grand staircase is the hotel's most recognizable spot, it's also just off the main lobby, which means there's often more foot traffic and less privacy.
After trying several different locations over the years, I usually recommend the second floor. It's quieter, more private, and still offers an elegant setting for one of the most meaningful moments of the day.
If you're getting ready in the Presidential or Governor Suite, those rooms are also spacious enough to host a beautiful first look. And if the ballroom is fully set before guests arrive, it's another wonderful option to see each other for the first time.

Ceremony Spaces
The ballroom provides a timeless setting for your ceremony. High ceilings, elegant chandeliers, and classic architectural details create a beautiful backdrop that doesn't require much decoration to feel special.
Reception & Dancing
The ballroom is one of Hotel Paso del Norte's biggest strengths. Even with a smaller guest count, the mirrors, chandeliers, and elegant architecture keep the space feeling full and inviting.
The large dance floor also makes a noticeable difference. When guests have room to move, they relax, dance more freely, and create the kind of genuine moments that make for some of my favorite reception photographs.
One piece of advice I always give couples is to choose a DJ who knows how to light a ballroom. Hotel Paso del Norte is a beautiful canvas, and thoughtful uplighting can completely transform the space. The right lighting not only elevates the atmosphere for your guests, but also creates richer, more dramatic photographs throughout the evening.
Night Portraits
One of my favorite traditions at Hotel Paso del Norte is ending the night with a few quiet portraits outside the hotel.
Stepping outside for just a few minutes allows us to create portraits with Hotel Paso del Norte beautifully illuminated and the lights of downtown El Paso in the background.
It's a simple way to end the day with a completely different look and some of the most memorable photographs in your gallery.
Planning Tips for Hotel Paso del Norte
Reserve the grand staircase for your portraits.
One of Hotel Paso del Norte's most iconic features is also one of its most requested. Because the hotel welcomes portrait sessions, and other events, the grand staircase can be reserved by other couples, even if they aren't getting married there that day.
If portraits on the staircase are important to you, ask your wedding coordinator to reserve it well in advance. That way, you'll have dedicated time to photograph at one of the hotel's most recognizable locations.
- Choose your getting-ready room carefully. The Presidential Suite, Governor Suite, and Sun City Studio Suite offer the best combination of space, natural light, and elegant design. Some standard guest rooms have tighter layouts that can make getting-ready photographs more challenging.
- The Dome Bar is beautiful, but it's not always available. With its Tiffany-style glass ceiling and warm architectural details, it's one of my favorite portrait locations. Since it's an active bar, however, I can't always guarantee it will be available without other guests in the background. If it's busy, we'll simply take advantage of one of the many other beautiful locations throughout the hotel.

• Prefer a more secluded venue that's not part of an active hotel.
• Picture your wedding surrounded by wide-open outdoor scenery instead of historic architecture and downtown views.
